Label printing questions
- Which labels does this work with?
- Avery 5160 / 8160 (30 per sheet, 2⅝ × 1 in), Avery 5161 / 8161 (20 per sheet, 4 × 1 in) and Avery 5163 / 8163 (10 per sheet, 4 × 2 in), all on US Letter paper; any generic sheet sold under the same product number lines up too. For a Dymo LabelWriter, the 30252 address label (3½ × 1⅛ in) and the 30336 multipurpose label (2⅛ × 1 in).
- How do I print on a Dymo roll?
- Pick the Dymo template, then print. Each label is its own page, sized to the label, so choose the Dymo printer in the print dialog and make sure its paper size matches the label you loaded (the driver lists them by product number). Print one label first to check it. Multiple copies come out as one label each.
- Why are my sheet labels printing slightly off?
- Almost always the printer's scaling. Set the print dialog to 100% or 'actual size' and turn off 'fit to page' or 'shrink oversized pages'. Those resize the page by a few percent, which is enough to walk the labels out of alignment down the sheet. Turn off browser headers and footers too. Print one page on plain paper and hold it against a label sheet before you commit.
- What if my books don't have ISBNs?
- Leave the code off and the tool issues a sequential shelf code like LIB-00001. That is often better than an ISBN for a classroom library: two copies of the same book share an ISBN but need different labels if you want to know which copy is out. Change the prefix to match the room or collection.
- Barcode or QR code?
- Code 128 barcodes if you have a laser or USB barcode scanner; they are faster and read at a distance. QR codes if you will scan with a phone camera, which most people already have in their pocket. Both encode the same value.
- Does this upload my book list anywhere?
- No. The list stays in your browser's local storage and the barcodes are drawn on your own device. Nothing is sent to Pearspark.
- Can I print a whole classroom library at once?
- Yes. Paste hundreds of titles and the tool lays them out across as many sheets as they need. If you are starting on a part-used sheet, set 'skip used labels' so it leaves those positions blank and starts where your sheet does.
