Install from the browser, not the app store

Parents open the portal and tap Install (Android) or Share → Add to Home Screen (iPhone) — the settings page walks them through it. They get a real app icon with an unread-messages badge, a full-screen app with thumb-reach tab navigation, and it's always current: every improvement ships to every family instantly, with no app-store updates to nag about.

Push notifications parents choose

A new message, this week's lesson plans published, report-card grades posted, an invoice issued or payment received, and — the one parents care about most — their child marked absent or late, the moment it happens on today's sheet. Each family picks which categories buzz their phone, per-device on/off, with a send-a-test button so they know it works. Email notifications remain for everything, with their own opt-out.

The phone layout is a bottom tab bar: Home, Messages and Billing, plus Community when the school turns it on. This Week, the school calendar and the rest sit one tap away under More. One thumb gets a parent from the lock screen to a teacher's message or an unpaid invoice. Multi-child families switch between kids without hunting.

Does Pearspark have a mobile app for parents?
Yes. The family portal is an installable web app: parents add it to their home screen from the browser on iPhone or Android and it behaves like a native app — its own icon, full screen, push notifications, and an unread badge. There's nothing to find in an app store and nothing extra to pay for.
How do parents install it?
On Android and desktop Chrome the portal shows an Install button. On iPhone and iPad it's Safari's Share → Add to Home Screen — the portal's settings page shows families those exact steps.
Do push notifications work on iPhone?
Yes, on iOS 16.4 and later, once the app is installed to the home screen. The settings page explains this to families automatically and includes a send-a-test button.
Can parents choose what notifies them?
Yes — messages, lesson plans, grades, billing, and attendance are separate categories a parent can mute, and the whole thing can be turned off per device. Email notifications have their own opt-out.
