Admissions, SIS, learning management, tuition, financial aid, fund accounting and the Raiser's Edge fundraising CRM all share one record; nothing else here puts the development office and the registrar on the same family. It is also quote-only, built for schools an order of magnitude larger than a microschool, and its own reviewers rate ease of use 3.4 out of 5. Pearspark competes on total cost and time-to-running, not on breadth.

The enterprise incumbent for private and independent schools — one vendor from admissions through fundraising, quoted rather than priced.

Pricing: Blackbaud publishes no K-12 pricing at all — every product page carries "Request Pricing" or "Ask About Pricing" and no figures. The only public number comes from vendor-supplied directory listings: Capterra, SoftwareAdvice and GetApp each show a starting price of $21,000 per year with no free version. Treat that as one datapoint rather than three, since all three directories are now owned by G2 and all carry listing data supplied by the vendor. No per-student rate, minimum school size, contract length or implementation fee is published anywhere we could find.

  • The whole K-12 line carries 12 Capterra reviews, thin for a forty-year incumbent, so independent evidence about it is scarcer than the brand suggests

When Blackbaud is the better choice

If your school raises money seriously — a development office, an annual fund, a capital campaign, an auditor who wants real fund accounting — Blackbaud's donors-families-students-in-one-record model is the thing you're buying, and Pearspark has no fundraising module to weigh against it. The same goes for a large multi-division school with a registrar, a business office and an IT staffer to run the platform. Pearspark is built for the school where one person does admissions, billing and attendance between classes. Those are different problems; the question is which one is yours.

When Pearspark is the better choice

Pearspark is built for small private schools of a couple of students to a few hundred: microschools, classical schools, Montessori programs, hybrid schools and homeschool co-ops. One published price includes student records, a spreadsheet-style gradebook with student analytics (trends, score distributions, missing-work tracking), report cards, printable transcripts with GPA, school-year attendance calendars, admissions, class scheduling, tuition billing with online payments, a lending library with barcode checkout, equipment booking, volunteer check-in, messaging and a parent and student portal. Setup is self-serve, and the built-in migration tools import your rosters, transcripts and gradebooks from Blackbaud CSV exports with a dry-run preview.

Common questions

How much does Blackbaud K-12 cost?
Blackbaud doesn't say. There is no published rate card, no per-student price and no stated minimum — every product page asks you to request pricing. The one public figure is a $21,000 per year starting price listed on Capterra, SoftwareAdvice and GetApp, and those three are all owned by G2 and all carry pricing supplied by the vendor, so it is really one datapoint rather than three. For comparison, Pearspark publishes its whole schedule: a 100-student school pays $250/month, or $3,000 a year, and you can work that out before speaking to anyone.
Is Blackbaud's first year really free?
Read the terms before you assume so. In August 2026 Blackbaud's K-12 hub carried a financing offer — "no payments and zero interest for up to 12 months" — which defers what you owe rather than waiving it; by September 29, 2026 the hub no longer showed it, and we never saw its fine print, eligibility or expiry. If a Blackbaud representative offers you a free first year, get the two-year and three-year totals in writing before signing, because the question that matters is what year two costs. Pearspark's answer to that question is the same as year one.
Is Blackbaud too big for a small school?
Blackbaud says it serves "schools of all sizes" and states no minimum, so we won't claim it refuses small schools. But the shape of its customer base is worth knowing: SoftwareAdvice profiles the typical Blackbaud K-12 customer as an organization with 51 to 200 employees, which at normal staffing is a school of several hundred to well over a thousand students. Nothing in its published materials mentions microschools, co-ops or schools under a hundred students. If that's your school, you would be buying a system built around problems you don't have yet.
What does Blackbaud have that Pearspark doesn't?
Fundraising, and the accounting behind it. Raiser's Edge NXT shares records with the SIS, so your development office and your registrar see the same family. Blackbaud also offers nonprofit fund accounting and a general ledger. Pearspark has neither, and if your school runs an annual fund or a capital campaign that difference is real and it favors Blackbaud.
What does Pearspark have that Blackbaud doesn't?
A price you can read, an installable parent app, and a school that's running this week. Blackbaud's parent experience is a mobile-friendly web portal — the native app in the App Store is School Journey, built by a third party and rated 2.3 stars — where Pearspark ships its own installable app with push notifications. Tuition is included rather than quoted: plans that bill weekly, every two weeks, monthly, quarterly, half-yearly or on your own academic calendar, with fixed plan terms, family autopay, one combined invoice per family, and payments landing in the school's own Stripe account — and a school that prefers a third-party tuition service can keep it and import the records into Pearspark. Pearspark also includes the smaller machinery of a small school: a lending library, volunteer tracking and check-in, equipment and room booking, and records escrow that keeps transcripts retrievable if the school closes.
