Find covers for library books that have none
A screen recording of Pearspark doing exactly this in a sample school, and the same 7 steps written out below in the labels you'll see on screen.
How to find covers for library books that have none
- 1Click Library under Library & resources in the sidebar (open the section first if it is closed)
- 2A gray book icon in the catalog means the title has no cover yet. Books brought in with Import CSV start that way, because an import doesn't look covers up
- 3Open More at the top right. "Find missing covers (N)" shows how many books it can look up. It appears only for staff who manage the library, and only while a book still needs a cover
- 4Click Find missing covers. The menu closes while it asks Open Library and Google Books for each book, up to forty books a click
- 5Read the message: "Found covers for N of M books", how many have no cover at Open Library or Google Books, and how many are left — click again for the next forty
- 6The covers fill in across the catalog. A book no source has a picture of keeps its gray icon
- 7New books get their cover when you scan the ISBN in Add book and click Look up. If it finds the title but no picture, the form says "no cover available for this edition"
Part of Library, resources & reservations
Barcode labels you print yourself, a scan station for checkout, holds families place from home, shared equipment reserved with dates instead of arguments — and the textbooks, shelf counts, and supply cupboard that come with all of it.
