Set your tardy rule and what a mid-day checkout marks

A screen recording of Pearspark doing exactly this in a sample school, and the same 8 steps written out below in the labels you'll see on screen.

How to set your tardy rule and what a mid-day checkout marks

  1. 1Click Settings under Administration in the sidebar
  2. 2Click Attendance in the section list down the left
  3. 3In "Tardies that make an absence", type your handbook's number (three, say) — or leave it blank if your school has no such rule
  4. 4Under "Which tardies count", "Count only unexcused tardies" starts ticked, so a called-ahead dentist appointment doesn't count — untick it to count every tardy
  5. 5Under "Families can report an absence", "Let families report an absence from the portal" starts ticked and gives parents the Report an absence button — untick it and the button goes away
  6. 6Under "A mid-day checkout marks the rest of the day", pick the mark the office's sign-out should leave on the classes after it (a mark a teacher already entered is never changed)
  7. 7Click Save — only the Attendance section saves; the page comes back on School profile with "Settings saved."
  8. 8Click Attendance again and read the "In force now:" line at the foot of the card — it states the saved rule, and appears once a tardy number is set

Part of Attendance, schedule & calendar

A tap per kid on attendance, bell periods and breaks behind the schedule, and one school calendar every family and student sees in their portal.
