Let older students have their own login

A screen recording of Pearspark doing exactly this in a sample school, and the same 10 steps written out below in the labels you'll see on screen.

How to let older students have their own login

  1. 1Click Settings under Administration in the sidebar, then open the "Planner & families" section
  2. 2Scroll to "Student logins" and read what a student account shows and what stays with parents
  3. 3Tick "Allow student logins"
  4. 4Set "Youngest grade allowed" (for example "Grade 6 and up") — no student below it, or with no grade on file, can sign in, whoever entered their email
  5. 5Click Save
  6. 6Each parent now sees a "<child>'s own login" card on their child's page in the family portal: they type the child's own email and click "Give <child> a login"
  7. 7Or type an address yourself: open the student, click Edit, fill in "Login email" and click Save changes
  8. 8Until a parent approves, the student's page shows the login with "Waiting for a parent to approve" (an imported address waits the same way)
  9. 9The parent opens their child's page in the portal and clicks "Approve <child>'s login"; the invite goes out then, and Send invites skips these students until they approve
  10. 10To stop all student sign-ins, untick "Allow student logins" and click Save

Part of Family & student portals

One login per parent, covering every child: grades, attendance, this week's plans, library books, and invoices — and a student portal that answers "what do I owe and when."
