Give an assignment to only some of the class

A screen recording of Pearspark doing exactly this in a sample school, and the same 8 steps written out below in the labels you'll see on screen.

How to give an assignment to only some of the class

  1. 1Click Learning in the sidebar if it is closed, click Classes, and open the class
  2. 2Click Gradebook, then click a subject tab such as Math — the group buttons work one subject at a time
  3. 3Click Add assignment and fill in its title, points and due date as usual
  4. 4Under "Who is it for?", click "Just some of the class" instead of Everyone
  5. 5If your school records working levels, click one of the pills under "Pick a group:" (for example Grade 2) to tick everyone at that level at once
  6. 6Or tick the students by hand in the list — each row shows the student's level beside their name
  7. 7Read the line underneath: "N of M picked" — the others never see this work, so it is never missing for them and never counts in their average
  8. 8Click Add assignment. Its row and its grid column read "set for N of M", so you can tell a split column from a row of missing scores

Part of Gradebook, report cards & transcripts

Enter grades in a spreadsheet-style grid, post them once, and watch report cards and transcripts assemble themselves — plus the What-If views families use on their side.
