Grade a class that covers several subjects

A screen recording of Pearspark doing exactly this in a sample school, and the same 9 steps written out below in the labels you'll see on screen.

How to grade a class that covers several subjects

  1. 1Click Classes under Learning in the sidebar, open your class, and click Gradebook
  2. 2Under the period bar, click a subject pill — one per subject the class covers, then "All"
  3. 3The title becomes "{Class} — {Subject}" and only that subject's assignments show
  4. 4Click "Add assignment" — the dialog reads "Add assignment — {Subject}", so new work is filed there
  5. 5When "assignments aren't filed under a subject", click "View All" to see them; unfiled work prints on no subject's report card line
  6. 6On the All tab, click "Edit" on an unfiled assignment and choose its "Subject" to file it
  7. 7Back on the subject tab, use More → "Grading" for that subject's own weights ("Grading settings — {Subject}")
  8. 8Click "Lock grades for report cards" on the subject tab — the dialog reads "Lock grades — {Period}"; each subject locks its own report-card line, and families can open the report card as soon as you lock
  9. 9The "All" tab has no Lock button — there's no single subject for the marks to land on, and "Report cards" stays grey until a subject is locked

Part of Gradebook, report cards & transcripts

Enter grades in a spreadsheet-style grid, post them once, and watch report cards and transcripts assemble themselves — plus the What-If views families use on their side.
