Log a phone call with a parent

A screen recording of Pearspark doing exactly this in a sample school, and the same 11 steps written out below in the labels you'll see on screen.

How to log a phone call with a parent

  1. 1Under People in the sidebar, click Students, then click the student's name
  2. 2Click the Communication tab — every logged call and email with the family sits there, newest first
  3. 3Click "Log a contact" on the Communication card header
  4. 4In "Log a contact — <student>", choose How: Phone call, Email, Text message, In person, Video call, Note home or Other
  5. 5Choose "Which way": "We contacted them" or "They contacted us"
  6. 6Under "Who you spoke with", choose the parent or guardian on file, or choose "Someone else (type the name below)" and type the name in "Name (if not on the list)"
  7. 7Set "When" (leave it blank for right now) and write "What it was about"
  8. 8Add Notes — what was said and anything agreed
  9. 9Tick or clear "Let this family see this entry in their portal" — ticked, the family can read the entry in their portal; clear, only staff can
  10. 10Click "Save it" — the entry lands on top of the log, with a "Shared With Family" badge when the family can read it
  11. 11Click the pencil on your own entry to correct it later; an admin can correct anyone's
