Show families the mark, not the percent

A screen recording of Pearspark doing exactly this in a sample school, and the same 7 steps written out below in the labels you'll see on screen.

How to show families the mark, not the percent

  1. 1Click Academics in the Learning section of the sidebar
  2. 2Open the Grade scales tab and click the pencil on the scale your classes use — the "Edit {scale}" dialog opens
  3. 3Untick "Families and students see the percent" — the note beneath explains families will see the mark ("S", not "84%") on the family portal, the family app, report cards and the transcript they open
  4. 4Click Save — the scale's card now reads "· families see the mark only"
  5. 5On a parent's screen, each class on that scale shows its mark instead of a percent and the Overall average tile is gone; a class on another scale keeps its percent, and staff still see every percent in the gradebook
  6. 6If the scale's bands have no Min %, a warning says families of a points-graded class would see no grade at all — give the bands a Min % or leave the percent on
  7. 7To show the percent again, open the scale, tick the box, and click Save

Part of Gradebook, report cards & transcripts

Enter grades in a spreadsheet-style grid, post them once, and watch report cards and transcripts assemble themselves — plus the What-If views families use on their side.
